Troubleshooting Software and Hardware Problems
If a device is either not detected during the operating system setup or is detected but incorrectly configured, you can use the Hardware Troubleshooter to resolve the incompatibility. To start the Hardware Troubleshooter:
Windows XP:
1 Click Start? Help and Support.
2 Type hardware troubleshooter in the search field and press <Enter> to start the search.
3 In the Fix a Problem section, click Hardware Troubleshooter. In the Hardware Troubleshooter list, select the option that best describes the
problem and click Next to follow the remaining troubleshooting steps. Windows Vista:
1 Click the Windows Vista Start button , and click Help and Support.
2 Type hardware troubleshooter in the search field and press <Enter> to start the search.
3 In the search results, select the option that best describes the problem and follow the remaining troubleshooting steps.

Connecting to the Internet
NOTE: ISPs and ISP offerings vary by country. To connect to the Internet, you need a network connection or external modem and an Internet service provider (ISP). If you are using a DSL or cable/satellite modem, contact your ISP or cellular phone service for setup instructions. If you are using an external USB modem, follow the installation instructions that came with your modem before setting up your dial-up connection.

When the laptop is in the docking station, these are the primary ports that will be used. The power, network, external monitor, mouse and keyboard should be connected at all times. There are additional USB ports on the rear and left side of the PR. The network and power cables plug into the indicated ports. If there are external USB devices that need to be connected, use either the USB ports on the rear, or the lower port on the right side of the PR.

System Setup Screens
In System Setup, primary categories of settings are listed on the left. To view the types of settings in a category, highlight the category and press <Enter>. When you highlight a setting type, the right side of the screen displays the value for that setting type. You can change settings that appear as white type on the screen. Values that you cannot change (because they are determined by the computer) appear less bright.
Changing the Boot Sequence
The boot sequence tells the computer where to look to find the software needed to start the operating system. You can control the boot sequence and enable/disable devices using the Boot Sequence page, which is located in the System category.

Preparing to Work Inside the Computer
CAUTION: Only a certified service technician should perform repairs on your computer. Damage due to servicing that is not authorized by Dell is not covered by your warranty. Read and follow applicable instructions in the safety instructions in the System Information Guide that came with the computer.
CAUTION: To prevent static damage to components inside your computer, discharge static electricity from your body before you touch any of your computer’s electronic components. You can do so by touching an unpainted metal surface.
CAUTION: Handle components and cards with care. Do not touch the components or contacts on a card. Hold a card by its edges or by its metal mounting bracket. Hold a component such as a microprocessor by its edges, not by its pins.
NOTICE: To avoid damaging the computer, perform the following steps before you begin working inside the computer.
1. Ensure that the work surface is flat and clean to prevent scratching the computer cover.
2. Save any work in progress and exit all open programs.
3. Turn off the computer and all attached devices.

Opening the LCD display panel
1. Carefully lift up the display panel with your thumb.
2. Slowly tilt the display panel forward or backward to a comfortable viewing angle.
Turning on the Power
1. Push and release the power button located beneath the LCD display panel.
2. Use [Fn]+[F5] or [Fn]+[F6] to adjust the LCD brightness.
A. Slide your finger across the touchpad to move the pointer. You can also hold the left button and slide your finger to drag the selected item.
B. Use the left and right buttons like a standard mouse.
C. Slide your finger up or down on the right side to scroll up or down a window.
