Server Installation
This Installation Guide takes you step by step through the installation of the OpenBook English program. The first part fully installs OpenBook to your Server computer, sets the appropriate security permissions and then runs OpenBook to activate the installation and student enrollments. The second part takes you through the different options for installing the student computers. Insert Disc 1 into your CD or DVD drive. A disc icon should mount on the desktop with typically either the name OpenBook School CD1 or OpenBook School DVD. Doubleclick on the icon to display the contents of the disc as shown below. Doubleclick on the installer that matches the operating system on your computer. If your computer is running Mac OS 10.2.8 or later then doubleclick on Installer for Mac OS X. If your computer is running an operating system earlier than version 10.2.8, then doubleclick on Installer for Classic. The OpenBook Installer program will open as shown on the next page.
The OpenBook English Setup screen should look as shown below with the Install Type set to Server: Install All. Use the dropdown menu to the right of Install Type: to select Server: Install All if it is not selected. Select the desired Server volume name to install to from the dropdown menu to the right of Install To:. If you are installing the Server from a client computer, then select the volume name that you have mounted to the Server. Advanced: If you do not want the OpenBook folder installed directly off the root of the selected volume, click on the Change⦠button. This will display a popup window allowing you to select another folder. Uncheck Create Icon On Desktop if you do not want an icon created on the
desktop for opening the program. After the desired options have been selected, click the Install button to display the OpenBook License Agreement screen shown on the next page.
OpenBook will now install the contents of Disc 1. The installation could take as long as fifteen minutes depending on the speed of your computer. When Disc 1 is finished installing a popup window will be displayed. Click the Continue button. Remove Disc 1 from the computer and insert Disc 2 if you received additional discs from OpenBook. A disc icon should mount on the desktop with the name OpenBook Content CD2 or something similar. Doubleclick on the icon to display the contents of the disc. Doubleclick on the installer that matches the operating system on your computer. The OpenBook Installer program should start and display the screen below. Confirm that the Install to Volume and Install to Path are the same as for Disc 1 and click the Install button.
